MEANING OF SAFETY OF FOOD
This refers to the conditions and practices that preserves the quality of food to prevent contamination and food-borne illness.
Safety of food also refers to handling, preparation and storage of food processes with contamination.
To ensure food safety in the home, it is important to:
i. Wash hands thoroughly before after handling any food.
ii. Wash hands thoroughly after using the toilet and touching animals.
iii. Wash all cutting boards and utensils with hot soapy water after preparing each food item before moving to the next food item.
iv. Wear gloves or avoid preparing food if your hands have any cuts or sores.
v. Refrigerate foods promptly and properly.
vi. Store foods in the right temperatures.
vii. Do not purchase contaminated foods.
viii. Label All Stored foods, especially in tins, bottles, cans, etc.
